I aim to help students feel empowered and guide them to become advocates for their own musical
and artistic journey.

Teaching Overview

My teaching is rooted in listening, curiosity, and discovery. Whether I am working with young flutists, college students, or creative artists across disciplines, my goal is to support each person in developing confidence, awareness, and trust in their own artistic voice.

I believe meaningful artistic growth happens when technique, imagination, and reflection are integrated. Rather than offering a single model of success, I encourage students to ask thoughtful questions, explore possibilities, and develop the skills needed to advocate for their own creative path - with clarity, empathy, and flexibility.

A Holistic Approach

At the center of my teaching is a holistic understanding of the artist as a whole person.

    •    Mental & emotional wellbeing

Many musicians carry internalized pressure and expectations that can undermine confidence and joy. Creating space for curiosity, reflection, and self-awareness helps students build confidence, resilience, and a healthier relationship with their work.

    •    Physical awareness & sustainability

Understanding how the body supports sound, movement, and expression is essential for longevity. Lessons and workshops emphasize healthy habits, tension awareness, and sustainable growth — supporting both artistry and physical wellbeing.

    •    Community, connection, & diplomacy

Artistic life depends on relationships. Students learn how to communicate clearly and respectfully with collaborators, teachers, presenters, and institutions. Emphasis is on diplomacy, listening, and mutual respect - skills that support meaningful collaboration and long-term professional relationships.

    •    Professional & creative agency

Especially at the college and professional level, students benefit from learning how to navigate the practical realities of artistic life — communication, collaboration, values-based decision making, and long-term sustainability.

Areas of Teaching

My teaching includes:

  • Private flute instruction and studio teaching

  • Masterclasses and residencies

  • College-level courses, including The Savvy Artist: Designing Creative Projects & Careers

  • Workshops based on Modal Flute Warmup, focused on listening, awareness, and expressive exploration

  • Workshops focused on creativity, reflection, and artistic development

Across all settings, my role is to guide and support students as they grow into thoughtful, self-directed artists with the tools to continue evolving long after our work together.
